A Hidden Gem in the Mountains of Asturias
The Story of Asturcilla: A Collective Project with Deep Roots
Asturcilla is much more than a simple hazelnut and cocoa cream. It is the result of a collective project full of passion, commitment, and love for the Asturian land. From the beginning, this small cooperative has worked tirelessly to rescue and enhance the flavors and traditions of the region.
It all started when a group of friends, united by their love for gastronomy and rural development, decided to take advantage of the abundant local production of hazelnuts. After numerous trials and experiments, they managed to create a unique recipe that stands out for its intense hazelnut flavor, perfectly complemented by the touch of cocoa.
But Asturcilla is not just a delicious spread, it is the reflection of an entire ecosystem of producers, artisans, and entrepreneurs who have come together to build a fairer and more sustainable economic model. It is part of the Kikiricoop cooperative, which also includes the organic food catering service Con-Fusión Comidas, creating a synergy that enriches both projects.
Local and Fair Trade Ingredients
What makes Asturcilla so special are its incredible ingredients, all carefully selected from local and fair trade sources.
Asturian Hazelnuts: A Hidden Treasure
The heart of Asturcilla are the hazelnuts, which come from native varieties of Asturias such as Amandi, Espinareu, Casina, and Grandona. These nuts, lovingly cultivated by small producers in the region, have an exquisite and unique flavor that will captivate any palate.
Hazelnuts not only provide a delicious flavor, but also a wealth of nutritional benefits. Rich in vitamins, healthy fats, fiber, and minerals, they are an ideal food for the heart, pregnancy, and anemia prevention.
Organic Milk from Happy Cows
Another star ingredient in Asturcilla is the organic cow's milk, from the La Roza farm in Nava, Asturias. These cows graze freely on 14 hectares of GM-free and pesticide-free meadows, and do not consume any type of hormone or stimulant medication.
The organic milk from La Roza is much richer in essential nutrients such as Omega 3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamin E, and calcium, compared to conventional milk. Additionally, as it is not homogenized, each batch of Asturcilla has a slightly different flavor, reflecting the seasonal changes in the cows' diet.
Panela Sugar: Pure and Healthy Sweetness
To sweeten Asturcilla, organic and fair trade panela sugar is used, from the Pakta Mintalay Corporation in Ecuador. Unlike refined sugar, panela retains its essential nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, providing a unique flavor and a softer, more balanced sweetness.
Organic Sunflower Oil: A Touch of Perfection
Completing the Asturcilla ingredients is the organic sunflower oil "Ecopipa", cold-pressed. This oil, produced by the Becerril Bilbao family in Burgos, provides an excellent emulsion and preserves all its valuable nutrients, such as vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids.
Pure Fair Trade Cocoa
Although the proportion of cocoa in Asturcilla is relatively low, around 6%, its intense and tropical flavor is provided by the organic and fair trade cocoa from the CONACADO cooperative in the Dominican Republic. This exceptional cocoa, rich in antioxidants, magnesium, and iron, is the final touch that perfectly balances the flavor profile of this unique cream.
