Discover the Beauty of Our Asturian Vineyards
A Centuries-Old Winemaking Tradition
The winemaking tradition of southwestern Asturias dates back to the 9th century, when Benedictine monks arrived in the region. After the founding of the Monastery of San Juan Bautista de Corias in the 11th century, the area dedicated to vineyards began to multiply, reaching its maximum splendor in 1858 with 5,493 hectares of vineyards.
However, these numbers have been decreasing until they have almost disappeared. Nowadays, the region has approximately 100 hectares of vineyards, making it a rich mosaic of orographic and edaphological peculiarities, providing a great diversity of possibilities for vine cultivation.
Our Mission: To Recover and Maintain the Asturian Vineyard
Since 2019, Casa Manunca has joined the task of small winegrowers in the region, contributing to the maintenance and recovery of the vineyard. Currently, we have 4 hectares of vineyards, divided into 16 plots, in the villages of Tremao de Carballo, Obanca and Limés, where we work under sustainable and environmentally friendly cultivation techniques.
Galiana de Limés: Expression of Asturian Singularity
Our flagship wine, Galiana de Limés, is a blend of different plots in the area that gives it its name. Elaborated with a blend of typical varieties of the area (Albarin negro, Mencía, Carrasquín and Verdejo tinto), this wine seeks to express the uniqueness of our region.
The 2021 vintage was marked by a strong frost in late April, which caused us to lose a large part of the production. However, a temperate summer favored the health of the grapes. In mid-September, the rain delayed the harvest, generating greater fluidity in the wines.
