A Sanctuary for Rescued Wolves and Wolfdogs
Howling Woods Farm: Where Rescued Canines Find a Home
Welcome to Howling Woods Farm, a 501(c)(3) non-profit sanctuary nestled in the heart of the New Jersey Pinelands. Established in 2009, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome domestic-bred wolves and wolf-dog hybrids in need of a safe and nurturing environment.
Our Remarkable Rescue Animals
At Howling Woods Farm, we are proud to be the caretakers of an extraordinary pack of rescued canines. Each of our residents has a unique and compelling story, and we are honored to provide them with the love, care, and spacious enclosures they deserve.
Lyra: The Majestic Black-Phase Wolf-Dog
One of our most recent additions, Lyra, is a high-content female wolf-dog with a striking black coat. Rescued in 2022, Lyra is a mixture of three subspecies of wolves: Arctic, British Columbian, and Alaskan Tundra. Though still aloof with crowds, she is slowly coming out of her shell and forming close bonds with her caregivers and fellow pack members.
Jack: The Gentle Giant
Standing tall as the tallest wolf-dog in our sanctuary, Jack is a high-content rescue from upstate New York. Born in 2019, this gentle giant is known for his distinctive underbite, a result of poor breeding practices. Jack plays a vital role as a mentor to our younger pups, Buddy and Holly, guiding them with his experience and calm demeanor.
Sirius: The Playful Star
Named after the "dog star" in the constellation Canis Major, Sirius is an energetic mid-content wolf-dog mix, likely with Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute lineage. Born in 2015, Sirius is a natural performer, often striking the cutest poses to entertain our visitors.
Raven: The Stunning Black Phase
Raven is an absolutely stunning black-phase wolf-dog, a trait that means his coat will gradually lighten to a silver-gray as he ages. Rescued in 2018, Raven is a mix of Gray Wolf, Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, and German Shepherd. Though initially shy, he has blossomed into a friendly and intelligent resident of our pack.
Luna: The Sassy Pint-Sized Powerhouse
As the smallest wolf-dog in our sanctuary, Luna is a force to be reckoned with. Born in 2019, this high-content canine was surrendered by her previous owners for being too shy and bossy towards their pit bulls. Luna now thrives in our supportive environment, enjoying the company of her friends Raven, Sayen, Jack, and Chante.
Sayen: The Sweet Rescue Ambassador
Sayen is a mid-content wolf-dog, born in 2020, who was rescued from the streets of Alabama. His Native American name, meaning "sweet" or "lovely," perfectly reflects his affectionate nature. As a resident ambassador, Sayen participates in off-site presentations, engaging with the community and promoting awareness about wolves and animal rescue.
A Commitment to Conservation and Education
At Howling Woods Farm, we are not only dedicated to providing our rescued canines with a safe haven, but also to educating the public about the true nature of wolves and wolf-dogs. Through our on-site tours, off-site presentations, and community outreach, we aim to dispel the myths and misconceptions surrounding these magnificent animals.
Connecting with Nature in the Pinelands
Our farm is nestled within the breathtaking New Jersey Pinelands, a unique and ecologically diverse region that is home to a vast array of wildlife. Visitors can explore our nature trails and observe the abundant amphibians, reptiles, and plant life that thrive in this remarkable environment.
A Sustainable Future
Howling Woods Farm is committed to sustainable practices, both in the care of our animals and the management of our property. From our solar-powered facilities to our efforts to preserve the native flora and fauna, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and a model for environmentally conscious animal rescue.
