Strategic location between sea and mountain

La Montaña Mágica is located in a privileged location in Eastern Asturias, just 8 kilometers from the best beaches of Llanes and a step away from the Picos de Europa, the Lakes of Covadonga, Cabrales and Cangas de Onís. In addition, cities such as Oviedo, Gijón, Santander, Santillana del Mar or Cabárceno are less than 1 hour by car from our accommodation.

A farm with history and tradition

Located in the municipality of Llanes, La Montaña Mágica preserves the original farm of the Quintana Asturiana, which has been renovated, with its working facilities: the hórreo, the stables, pastures for the animals and arable land with a vegetable garden and greenhouse. In total, it covers an area of 17 hectares (170,000 m²) for guests to walk, read, enjoy the landscape or simply get lost in the tranquility of the corners of this place.

Recovery of native flora and fauna

Since 1992, we have been carrying out a project to recover native trees such as chestnut, oak, birch and ash, among others, while eliminating the monocultures of eucalyptus, which damage the local flora and fauna. Likewise, the original holm oak forests on the southern slope of the mountain, which had disappeared due to intensive logging, are being repopulated.

Native animals in semi-freedom

At La Montaña Mágica, a low-intensity livestock activity is maintained with native breeds of Asturias, all of which are endangered. During their stay, guests can observe, pet and feed the Asturcones Horses, Xaldas Sheep and Asturiana de los Valles Cows, which are in a state of semi-freedom for the maintenance of the farm and take refuge in their respective stables only when necessary.

Cultivation of natural products

We use the wood from old buildings and combine it with young wood from controlled pruning and fallen trees to handcraft furniture that decorates every corner of the hotel. In addition, aromatic plants such as lavender, rosemary and mint grow in the sunniest areas of the farm, which we use to make essential oils, bath salts and soaps that guests can enjoy during their stay.

Vegetable garden and own production

Thanks to the vegetable garden and greenhouse, we have fresh vegetables all year round, following the natural cycles of sowing and harvesting, without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers, but natural fertilizers such as compost or animal manure. We also grow small fruits such as blueberries, raspberries and currants, with which we make delicious desserts and jams. We also have plantations of fruit trees such as citrus, quince, feijoa and apple, which we use to make our own Asturian cider.

Gastronomy of local produce

From our stoves come dishes that combine the care of traditional cuisine with innovative touches. Most of the products grow on our own farm, and those that we cannot cultivate due to seasonality come from the area, always seeking the highest quality, freshness and proximity. We offer breakfast and dinner service only for our guests, every day of the year, with vegetarian and vegan options.

After a careful renovation of the old Quintana Asturiana, La Montaña Mágica offers rural accommodation with all the comforts: spacious and comfortable rooms, windows with views of the Picos de Europa, porches and terraces. In addition, guests can enjoy various activities such as hiking, a pottery workshop, massages in the hórreo or visits to the farm and the cider mill.
