Honey from the Trubia Valleys: A Unique Beekeeping Experience in Asturias

The Origin of a Beekeeping Tradition

In 1982, after completing my Technical Agricultural Engineering studies, I had the opportunity to join the Principado de Asturias Foundation as a scholarship holder. That's where my journey in the world of beekeeping began, which would later become the Institute for Beekeeping Research and Development in Asturias.

At that time, beekeeping in Asturias was in a completely primitive phase. It was common to see truebanos (hollow tree trunks where bees were kept) and cortines (circular structures to protect the truebanos from bear attacks) as part of the Asturian landscape. The bee was an integral element of the composition of peasant families.

The Evolution of Asturian Beekeeping

The transition from truebanos to beehives marked the beginning of modern beekeeping in Asturias. This transition brought about a honey production with better sanitary conditions, in suitable facilities and with an undoubted quality, thanks to the magnificent beekeeping flora that develops in this region.

The years of work and learning at the Institute laid the foundations for what is now Honey from the Trubia Valleys. After dedicating many years to the management of the beehives, we have the pleasure of presenting this website, where you can discover our unique beekeeping experience.

Our Valleys, Our Honey

Honey from the Trubia Valleys is located in the heart of Asturias, in the Trubia Valleys area. This region is characterized by its green meadows, lush forests, and crystal-clear streams, which provide our bees with an exceptional natural environment for the production of excellent quality honey.

Our commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment is fundamental. We use artisanal and organic production methods, without resorting to additives or processes that could alter the natural properties of the honey. Each jar of honey that leaves our facilities is the result of careful work, where the harmony between the bee, the flora, and the human being is the key.
