Artisanal Honey from Asturias - Olaya Miel
Beekeeping and tradition in Asturias
We are Olaya and Mario Pérez, two siblings very proud to be the third generation of this family of beekeepers in Asturias. And we are here because honey has always been a part of our lives. When we were children, we longed for summer to come so we could extract honey, because that's when we enjoyed it the most, among the animals and in the heart of nature.
What makes our honey special?
Olaya Miel is the result of combining tradition, experience, innovation, and love for nature. The origin of this family business is in Artesanos de Cuevas, a dynasty of beekeepers who started working in Felechosa, in the municipality of Aller. Their involvement and work made it a pioneering company in Asturias and Spain. This traditional way of working led many entrepreneurs to follow in their footsteps, thanks to their open-door philosophy and their passion for beekeeping and nature.
Transhumance
Do you know the secret to achieving a different flavor, aroma, and texture compared to other honeys on the market? Undoubtedly, one of the characteristics of Olaya Miel is the use of flowers from different areas of the region, and for this, we move our hives through various parts of Asturias. With the transhumance of our bees, we obtain the different honeys. And we are very proud to have been the first to carry out this technique in Asturias.
Olaya Miel's Philosophy
We are pioneers in monofloral honeys and in practicing transhumance in Asturias, and we are very proud to tell you about it, but above all, to demonstrate how this work philosophy and respect for nature have borne fruit. Because we believe that to dedicate yourself to this profession and achieve a quality product like ours, you have to feel that respect and passion for the environment.
Our Honey
We have already told you that we choose where to locate our hives to avoid contaminated areas, that we extract the honey in a traditional way to respect the bees, and that we do not use chemical products. Because with this way of doing things, we want to respect the environment and biodiversity, our work base and our daily life.
But to achieve a 100% organic product, one last step is necessary before selling it to the customer: analyzing the honey. At OLAYA MIEL, we have the certifications that ensure that our product DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY TYPE OF RESIDUE. 0% residues, 100% traditional honey. Because in addition to making sure you'll love it, we want to take care of you and that you take care of yourself.
